The Marketing Business

Flat Cat Marketing began in Mackay and the Whitsundays in 2004, with the aim of giving businesses purpose with marketing so they get better bang for their buck.

Where it all started

Media sales reps are focused on selling time and space, so when a manager agrees to what seems like “a good deal”, the next question is usually: “Now, what do you want in the ad?” Too often, the answer is “I don’t know”. The core principle of Flat Cat Marketing is to avoid that situation. By developing a strategy and a marketing plan, advertising is booked according to the plan and what “goes in the ad” is already known before the sales rep comes calling. After all, good business decisions are driven by the needs of the business rather than the needs of the media.

Where it is today

Flat Cat Marketing now provides a wide range of services, including ad booking, graphic design, copy-writing, photography, video, social media, websites, training, research, and public relations. But underpinning it all is that strong foundation of a professional marketing strategy. Everything is done with purpose and it all adds up to getting one thing – results.

The Marketing People

Managing Director, Dave Westman, has more than 20 years experience in the media, predominantly in the print industry, with roles in editorial, sales, and management. As a retail business owner and manager for five years, he also understands the other side of the fence and the need to attract and hold the best customers.
With a degree in journalism and a Masters in Marketing, Dave places a strong emphasis on learning and quality training. He has a passion for development – both business and individuals. But his commitment to innovation and creativity is why clients choose Flat Cat Marketing. Dave is the author of an upcoming book called Stop Wasting Money on Ads, due for publication in 2020.
